1. Temple Square Lights
Each year Temple Square and downtown Salt Lake City are lit up with over a million lights in celebration of the holiday season. Reaching from the Gateway complex to Temple Square, this festive display boasts a variety of local singing and performance groups throughout the season among six different venues in downtown SLC. Events such as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concert and the LDS Church First Presidency’s Christmas Devotional attract visitors from all over, and are a treat for locals too!
2. ZooLights! at Utah’s Hogle Zoo
Hosted by Utah’s own Hogle Zoo, ZooLights! is returning for its 13th year with over 200 lighted animal and holiday themed displays placed throughout the zoo grounds. Stroll along the lit up pathways and through the zoo’s 135 foot lighted tunnel, or take the kids for a spin on the Conservation Carousel. You can make a stop by the Jolly Old Elf at Santa’s Station, and warm yourself up with some hot chocolate and s’mores at the Oasis Plaza.
3. Elf Displays at Gardner Village
Throughout the holiday season, Gardner Village in Midvale is a magical place to visit. The village includes a plethora of whimsical elf displays depicting Santa’s helpers hard at work sorting through Santa’s mail, testing toys, and maintaining the infamous Naughty and Nice lists. You can even turn this enchanting elf tour into a game by printing our the Elf Scavenger Hunt for fun with the kids. They even host a Santa 5k run!
4. South Jordan’s Christmas in Color
Don’t feel like leaving the car but still want to see the lights? Look no further than South Jordan’s Christmas in Color for a truly immersive holiday light drive-thru. The enchanting winding road display takes you through acres of land filled with over 5 million LED lights perfectly synched to music guaranteed to put you in the holiday spirit. Kids and adults love this fantastic lighted wonderland to bits, and it’s sure to become a family tradition for years to come.
5. Christmas Street in Sugarhouse
Want to treat the kids to a dazzling light show, but don’t want to break the bank? Sugarhouse’s Christmas Street is the perfect light show for you! Upon entering, you’ll find a banner proclaiming “Christmas Street,” and this is where the fun begins. Each house on both sides of the street are decorated with lights and other holiday decorations, and at the end of the cul-de-sac, there’s even a giant Christmas tree. The drive is about 5 minutes long, but you can also choose to park and take a walk with the family instead to get the most out of this festive family excursion.
